The £9 million investment is the next stage in the Lossiemouth Development Programme and will enable firefighters to reach any part of the airfield in less than two minutes in their new Oshkosh Striker Vehicles.

The project, which is being managed by Henry Brothers Ltd, will see the new station located adjacent to II (AC) Squadron with construction expected to commence in late 2021, and completion anticipated by Autumn 2022.

Group Captain Peter Becket, Lossiemouth’s development programme project director, said: “This new capability is being delivered partly as a lifecycle replacement for the current Fire Section building but also to provide the increased levels of emergency cover required in support of the introduction of both the P8 and E7 aircraft. The new building will provide much enhanced working accommodation for our personnel as well as having the capacity and required services to support our new fleet of vehicles.”

RAF Lossiemouth began using the new Oshkosh Striker Vehicle in August 2021 which has the ability to pierce an aircraft’s fuselage with a giant spike in an emergency. This provides firefighters with direct access to any internal fire, supresses flames and toxic fumes and improves the rescue time for those onboard.

These new developments highlight RAF Lossiemouth continued growth in both personnel and equipment, as well as from the multi-million-pound investment programme.
