Fife’s affordable housing programme ‘on track’ with more than 80 new home approvals

Fife Council’s commitment to provide 3,500 new affordable homes across the Kingdom by 2022 moved a step closer last week after three new housing developments were given the green light.

A meeting of the council’s community and housing services committee saw plans approved for new council homes in Newburgh, Springfield and Ladybank, bringing more than 80 new homes to the area.

The developments are:

  • Newburgh, South of Cupar Road (45 new homes)
  • Springfield, Crawley Court (30 new homes)
  • Ladybank, Commercial Cresc (8 new homes)

Committee convener Cllr Judy Hamilton said: “I am absolutely delighted to see these developments coming forward. North East Fife has been an area where there has been very little opportunity for social housing.

“These developments will provide much needed council houses for people in North East Fife. With thousands on our housing lists and the challenge of children in temporary accommodation without a home to call their own. It is a further demonstration of our commitment to continue to address housing needs, with good quality, warm, safe housing.”

The committee also recognised that 43 new council houses already planned for Cardenden are now coming forward.

Cllr Hamilton added: “Our affordable housing programme works in partnership with Fife Housing Association Alliance, private developers and together we are making real progress towards our 3500 commitment.”
