Aberdeen flats plan recommended for refusal

Council planners in Aberdeen have recommended that proposals for a block of flats to provide support for a charity are refused by the city’s planning committee.

CALA Homes had submitted a new planning application to Aberdeen City Council for the development in partnership with the charity VSA.

If approved, the 35 apartments would replace the existing building on the site at 22 King’s Gate at the site of the charity’s former Forest Grove care home with a high quality, three-storey block and a partial fourth storey penthouse level with parking at the rear.

Designed by Halliday Fraser Munro, the development is set to provide significant financial support to VSA’s Changing Lives campaign, which seeks to raise £3.2 million to build a state-of-the-art mental health facility at Abergeldie Road in Aberdeen.

VSA and CALA previously withdrew plans for the disused site after officials had again recommended refusal.

The “substantially revised” application, which followed feedback from stakeholders, reduced the number of flats from more than 40 and the height of the building from five storeys.

Aberdeen’s planning committee will consider the plans on Thursday.
