The proposals for May Baird Avenue were given the backing of councillors last year, subject to the satisfactory conclusion of a Section 75 agreement.

Now the development has officially been given the green light by Aberdeen City Council, paving the way for work to begin.

The project, which has been developed in conjunction with NHS Grampian, will see 32 one and two bedrooms delivered within the grounds of the former Royal Cornhill Hospital, which are set to transform the currently surplus land.

The plans were refined on previous proposals for 36 apartments following feedback from the community and other consultees.

Outlining the decision to formally grant planning permission, Aberdeen City Council’s development management manager Daniel Lewis said: “The proposal would result in the retention of a significant proportion of the green space, along with the mature trees and those along the site boundary.

“The proposal would provide high-quality accommodation with both private and communal amenity space for occupants of the mainstream flats, as well as affordable housing within a mixed tenure community, all of which is located with good access to public transport links and relatively close to facilities in Rosemount and Berryhill.”

After being granted permission by councillors last year, Ross Maclennan, land director for CALA Homes (North), said: “We believe that this development will bring much needed high quality apartments to the city centre, built to CALA’s very high specifications and standards.

“We carefully considered feedback from local people and other key stakeholders to ensure these new apartments are in keeping with their surroundings and are pleased to have received the go ahead from Aberdeen City Council pending completion of a Section 75 agreement.”
