Balado’s famous “golf ball” spy station is set to be repurposed as an aerospace museum under plans currently in development.

Aero Space Kinross (ASK) has agreed to buy the former Balado Satellite Ground Station, used by NATO to intercept aircraft transmissions until 2006, according to The Times.

The charity wants to create a “uniquely themed aerospace discovery centre” at the station, with hopes to attract 50,000 visitors per year.

The station is adjacent to Balado Airfield, previously home to Scotland’s T in the Park music festival.

The festival was forced to move away from the Kinross-shire park after an underground gas pipeline sparked health and safety fears.
