And finally... feline the love

A Chinese businessman has gone viral after staging an extravagant, Hello Kitty–themed marriage proposal featuring a towering, custom‑built “Parthenon” made entirely to honour his girlfriend’s devotion to the cartoon icon.

The lavish installation, reported to have cost around £70,000 (650,000 yuan), appeared in both Shenzhen and Hangzhou‑based accounts circulating online, with footage showing a 15‑metre‑tall temple‑like structure rising dramatically against a cliffside backdrop.

Modelled loosely on ancient Greek architecture, the spectacle swapped marble for thousands of illuminated Hello Kitty plush toys arranged as columns, pediments and decorative sculptures.

The scene was further transformed with cascades of pink flowers, cherub‑style Kitty statues, sweeping staircases and dense layers of fairy lights. Petals drifted through the air as the businessman led his partner toward a small altar at the centre of the installation, a moment designed to resemble a mythic tableau, equal parts Mount Olympus and Sanrio fantasy.

Online, reactions ranged from awe to disbelief, with many debating whether the gesture represented peak romance or peak excess in the age of social‑media spectacle. Supporters praised the devotion behind the stunt; critics questioned the culture of high‑cost proposals engineered for virality.
