Hector MacAulay has announced his intentions to step down after nearly four decades with Balfour Beatty.

Currently managing director – Scotland & Ireland, MacAulay is responsible for a significant portion of the company’s continued growth

Having first joined the business as a graduate engineer, he has also led regional civil engineering divisions during his long tenure at Balfour Beatty.

In 2020, he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Honours list for services to construction and has been named by the King as Ambassador for Industrial Cadets in Scotland.

MacAulay’s retirement was announced publicly online by Balfour Beatty group chief executive, Leo Quinn, who congratulated him on his long and “purposeful” career.

“Today, Hector MacAulay MBE, has announced he will retire at the end of the year after four decades with Balfour Beatty,” Quinn announced.

“From graduate engineer to managing director of our Scotland business, Hector’s journey reflects the incredible, purposeful careers that make Balfour Beatty such a rewarding place to work—and his leadership leaves us in a strong position for continued success.”

Quinn added: “Scotland is central to Balfour Beatty’s growth—energising the transition to net-zero, creating local jobs, and delivering infrastructure that endures and powers the future.

“A huge thank you to our colleagues across Scotland for your incredible dedication, skill and resilience.

“Together, you’re shaping a bright future for Balfour Beatty and the communities we serve.”
