Livingston-based John Heaney Electrical (JHE) has made its fourth promotion of the year with the appointment of long-serving Calvin Dodds as its new automation and controls manager.
Dundee-born Mr Dodds steps up after five years as controls engineer with the West Lothian firm, having joined in 2016 from Schlumberger, now known as SLB.
Skilled in AutoCAD, petroleum, process control, control systems design and electrical wiring, Dodds is looking forward to growing this division of the company which services a UK-wide client base from Livingston.
“It’s an opportunity I couldn’t turn down and I’m really looking forward to leading the Automation & Controls department,” he said. “My job will involve overseeing project delivery from initial enquiry through to commissioning, ensuring quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
“Next year will be 10 years I have been with JHE and I have learned from some of the best people in the business here. I’m delighted the company has shown the trust in me to take on this new role and I’m looking forward to taking all that knowledge into this position and helping the company continue to grow.”
The experienced automation engineer added: “When I came here from Schlumberger, they were employing over 100,000 people worldwide and nobody really knew who you were.
“JHE is a family-run company and I can always knock on the boss’ door if I have any questions. We all enjoy a great working relationship here and that makes a big difference.”
The move is the latest in a series of internal promotions by the electrical and manufacturing specialist. In the past seven months, Barry Murphy was appointed projects director, John Cowan stepped up to become FM operations director and Derek Menzies took on the role of contracts director.
Managing director Mark Heaney said: “Calvin has been with us for a good number of years, has been a very loyal member of our staff and deserves the opportunity.
“We are always keen to promote from within and after speaking to Calvin, he showed an appetite for the role and was keen to develop. We were keen for him to take the next step up so it was a good fit all round.
“This is all part of our plan to keep the company growing and moving in the right direction. He’ll have a core team working for him and should things get as busy as we anticipate, Calvin will have the opportunity to recruit more team members in a bid to take the division to the next level.”
