Plans have been unveiled for a new AI data centre campus in Plean, which could deliver more than £2 billion of investment and create over 2,000 jobs.

A Proposal of Application Notice (POAN) has been submitted by developer Apatura to both Stirling Council and Falkirk Council for the 43.1-hectare site, which lies off the A9 between Plean and Torwood.

The application sets out proposals for an AI data centre campus with a 300MW utility capacity, alongside parking, landscaping, roads, access, and associated works.

According to Apatura, AI data centres are “vital to the UK’s digital and economic infrastructure”, enabling large-scale data processing for services ranging from NHS online systems and national security to cloud storage, finance, and digital entertainment.

The submission of the POAN triggers a 12-week statutory consultation period. Apatura intends to pursue a dual-application route to Stirling Council, Falkirk Council, and the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU), reflecting what the firm describes as the strategic importance of the project both locally and nationally.

Two public consultation events are scheduled:

  • Wednesday 3 September, 3–8pm, at Glenbervie House & Country Estate
  • Tuesday 7 October, 3–8pm, at the same venue

If approved, the project would represent a major boost to the local and regional economy, including £2.1bn total capital investment, £189 million construction spend retained in the local supply chain and 2,164 jobs created annually across Scotland during the four-year build, including 395 jobs locally.
