Cruden donates over £800 to Jedburgh community initiative
Cruden has donated £840 to a community-led project in Jedburgh known as Get Jed Fed which encourages locals and schoolchildren to plant, grow and harvest produce.
The donation, made through Cruden’s Howdenburn development in collaboration with Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA), will help to finance equipment to support the group’s community growing initiative.
Get Jed Fed was set up by local volunteers to promote food growing in the town, creating opportunities for people to participate and encouraging better community connections and promoting locally sourced food.
The funding is part of Cruden’s community activities associated with the Howdenburn development, which is providing 70 affordable homes in Jedburgh in collaboration with Scottish Borders Housing Association. There has been over 1,100 applications received for the new homes.
Recently, representatives from Cruden, SBHA, Get Jed Fed, the Rotary Club of Jedburgh and local school pupils came together for a cheque presentation which marked the funding.
Michael Palethorpe, production & community benefit manager at Cruden, said: “Community benefit is an important part of every development we deliver, and projects such as Get Jed Fed help ensure that investment continues to make a positive impact beyond the homes themselves.
“Get Jed Fed is doing fantastic work to encourage people of all ages to learn more about growing their own food while bringing people together.”
Debby Gillett, development manager at Scottish Borders Housing Association, said: “This donation will help support Get Jed Fed which is a fantastic community-led project. We are grateful to Cruden for supporting an initiative that is making a positive difference locally.
James Wyness from Get Jed Fed, said: “Contributions like this make a real difference and will help us continue encouraging people of all ages to get involved in growing their own food.”
