East Lothian school nets Bellway sponsorship bonus

Bellway Homes has donated £1,600 to Elphinstone Primary School near Tranent, to enable the purchase of new portable basketball nets.

Basketball is encouraged at the school to promote a healthy lifestyle, teamwork and encourage new skills. The game is adapted with modified rules to make it easier for the younger children to participate.

Sales manager Sheryl Jackson and site manager Iain Malone visited the school this week to see the new equipment in action.

Steven McBride, head teacher, Elphinstone Primary School, said: “We are delighted with the support and partnership we have received from Bellway. The basketball nets are a fantastic addition to our play and outdoor sport provision. They have been very warmly welcomed by the pupils.”

Since the opening of a new development in the village two years ago, Bellway has invested significantly in the community by providing £1.3 million towards education, enabling increased capacity in the local school. In addition, £31,103 has been donated to sporting provisions, in addition to the basketball nets, and £18,227 towards transport improvements.

Lynn Pringle, sales director, Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland East), added: “It’s fantastic to see the young people enjoying the new equipment and having fun.  It’s a great team sport and a good way of keeping fit.”

Bellway Homes is currently building Elfenne Gardens, a collection of three and four-bedroom energy-efficient homes located within walking distance of the primary school.
