Fife village church hall to be turned into five homes
Plans to transform an empty church hall in Strathmiglo into five flats have been approved by Fife councillors.
Fife Council’s north east planning committee backed an application from Janet and John Wilson to convert Strathmiglo Church Hall and carry out a series of external alterations, including re-roofing and installing new and replacement windows, doors and rooflights.
Concerns were raised in seven objections, with several highlighting fears that the development would worsen existing parking pressures in the village.
Local councillor David Macdiarmid, who represents Howe of Fife and Tay Coast, said parking was already difficult.
“When I am purchasing my clothes and shoes from Hoggs of Strathmiglo, I sometimes have to park a good way away because there is congestion most of the time,” he said. “I think what we are doing here is adding to the problem.”
Planning service manager Alistair Hamilton confirmed the scheme includes four off‑street parking spaces. While acknowledging the project does not meet current parking standards, he said the change of use would still reduce traffic compared with the building’s former Class 10 function.
A planning report recommended approval, stating the proposals comply with policy and would protect the building’s historic and architectural character within the conservation area.
It concluded that the conversion represents a sustainable reuse of the hall, contributes to local housing supply, and helps secure the long-term future of a valued heritage asset.
