Constructed by Fleming Buildings on the site of the town’s former Winton Cinema, the £2.6 million facility will provide a range of multipurpose arts and cultural spaces for tots to pensioners.

In keeping with the building’s heritage, the designs by NORR will also provide a cinema along with a cafe, meeting and training rooms, as well as rooms to let for local businesses.

Plans for the new building began back in 2011 and David Orr, project & development manager for The Fraser Centre Community Trust, was responsible for seeing them come to fruition.

He said: “Until now we were the largest town in East Lothian without a community centre.  We wanted to create a place for learning, development, arts and entertainment at the heart of the local community and that’s exactly what we’ve accomplished.”

Ronnie Burrows, director of Fleming Buildings, added: “Over the past year we have really enjoyed working with locals to create a building that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

“The need for community centres with modern facilities is being recognised increasingly across Scotland and we have been, and continue to be, involved in the construction of a number of these hubs.”
