FM Group unveils plans for 154 homes at Western Harbour

A long-vacant brownfield site at the western edge of Port of Leith could be set for transformation after FM Group moved forward with plans to deliver 154 new homes at Western Harbour.
About this development:
- Authority:Edinburgh City
- Type:Residential
- Applications:
- Team:FM Group (developer), 56three architects (architect)
Occupying 0.62 hectares of reclaimed land, the proposed development will comprise two apartment blocks arranged to form a perimeter urban block.
The project will deliver a mix of affordable and private housing, designed to be tenure-blind and in line with broader efforts to address Edinburgh’s escalating housing crisis.

Designed by 56Three Architects, the scheme draws on the framework of a 2002 Robert Adam masterplan for Western Harbour and benefits from an existing consent for permission in principle.
It replaces a previously expired 2008 approval for 109 flats, with the increased density reflecting the city’s urgent need for more homes while maintaining a waterfront character appropriate to the location.
The space between the two blocks will include landscaped gardens and car parking, helping to enhance both the visual and functional quality of the development.
