Collective Architecture has been granted planning permission to transform the former George Hotel in Stranraer into a new community facility.

Involving a major refurbishment of the former Category B Listed building, the new centre for Dumfries and Galloway Council will accommodate a new community arts space, bunkhouse and bouldering centre.

The development will form part of a larger levelling up fund application to transform Stranraer’s waterfront and town centre into an active visitor destination.

A spokesperson for Collective Architecture said: “Stranraer’s heritage assets are central to the town’s culture, connecting visitors and residents to the area’s proud past and it is great to see Dumfries and Galloway Council’s commitment to using Stranraer’s heritage assets to transform and regenerate the town centre into a more vibrant and sustainable place.”
