Forres Academy relocation approved

Moray Council has unanimously approved plans to relocate Forres Academy to a new, purpose-built school near its current site.

The decision was made following consideration of consultation feedback and an independent assessment by Education Scotland.

During the statutory consultation, feedback was gathered through an online survey, alongside written submissions and public meetings. More than 600 pupils from eight feeder primary schools also shared their views, with many choosing the central location as their main advantage of the proposal.

Council leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “We know how important this decision is for families, young people and the community, and we genuinely appreciate everyone who took the time to share their views.

“While there are strong feelings locally and not everyone will agree with the decision today, our priority is always to do what we believe is right for children and their education. We’re committed to working closely with the school and wider community as the project progresses and to keeping people informed every step of the way.”

The new school will provide modern, accessible and sustainable facilities designed to support high-quality learning for young people, now and in the future.

Work will now move forward on the next stages of the project, with further updates shared as plans develop.
