Sustainable energy specialist Gensource has acquired Perth-based Solar Kingdom as it expands residential home energy delivery across Scotland.

Solar Kingdom, which was established in 2009 and has 17 years of uninterrupted trading history in domestic solar installations, is now owned and operated within the Musselburgh-headquartered Gensource Group.

The acquisition is the first one completed by Gensource since it was founded by Josh King and Robert Wilson towards the end of 2022.

Details of the landmark deal remain undisclosed. All jobs and assets have been fully retained as part of the acquisition, including Solar Kingdom’s Perth office, which extends Gensource’s service reach across Scotland.

Solar Kingdom owner Gregor Thake has joined the Gensource board as an executive director, assuming the role of technical delivery director.

The strategic acquisition will help Gensource provide an end-to-end offering across Scotland for home energy and larger commercial and public sector projects.

It comes amid fears of what effects the ongoing energy crisis could have on householders’ costs, with Gensource now in a position to help meet the demand for solar panels which has been rapidly rising since start of the Iran war.

Gensource managing director Josh King said: “Solar Kingdom has built a trusted reputation in home energy over many years. Bringing that expertise into the Gensource Group strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality residential solar, storage, EV charging and heat pumps across Scotland, growing the scale of the impact that we can make for all energy users, and their bills.

“We’re not changing what customers value — we’re scaling it. Same trusted team, bigger capability and improved support. By bringing domestic and commercial capability under one group, we can improve coverage, responsiveness and customer support — while keeping the Solar Kingdom experience people trust.”

The two companies have collaborated on previous projects and Gregor Thake said taking that partnership to the next level was an obvious step.

“Since being first introduced to Gensource, I have been impressed with how they go about their business,” he said. “They have demonstrated they are excellent at what they do and their growing client base is testimony to that.

“When this opportunity came along, it was one I couldn’t ignore. It made complete sense and I’m looking forward to strengthening the offering from Gensource.

“Solar Kingdom customers will continue to be supported through the same channels, with warranties and service obligations unchanged — now with the added backing and resourcing of the wider Gensource Group.”
