The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has awarded the Large Employer of the Year (Scotland) prize to CCG at the Managing Agency Apprenticeship Awards 2014.

The Awards, held at the Plaisterers’ Hall in London, were hosted by former track athlete Colin Jackson and celebrate the achievements of apprentices and employers in the industry.

In addition, CCG has secured the coveted Investors in Young People (IIYP) accreditation and is only the second construction company to achieve this. IIYP accreditation recognises and promotes employers who are committed to developing skills and young people.

Receiving the award and accreditation, CCG chairman and chief executive, Alastair Wylie, said: “Securing this prestigious award and accreditation is a real milestone for our business reflecting our commitment to developing the sectors next generation of skilled trades through apprenticeships and other training programmes.”

Over the past year CCG has undertaken the company’s largest ever apprentice recruitment, twenty one, bringing the total number of trades apprentices to represent 10 per cent of the company’s 600 staff. CCG also demonstrated its commitment to working with partners to create employment opportunities and recently worked with Jobs and Business Glasgow and Glasgow City Council to create 40 new jobs to launch a second shift at their flagship Off-Site Manufacturing facility. Six of those jobs were created as part of the Glasgow Veterans Employment Programme (GVEP) aimed at helping ex-members of the armed forces into employment.

Stuart Patrick, chief executive, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce presented CCG with the award and said: “This is a tremendous achievement for CCG and a firm recognition of their status within the industry. The business is a sector leader, responsible for some of Glasgow’s most ambitious construction projects.

“The company’s contribution to up-skilling the city’s workforce is to be commended and I’d like to congratulate CCG for its achievements and look forward to their continued success.”
