Minister for youth and women’s employment meets Glasgow construction apprentices

Annabelle Ewing CCGGlasgow construction and manufacturing company CCG (Scotland) Ltd welcomed minister for youth and women’s employment Annabelle Ewing MSP yesterday to meet members of the company’s 61 strong apprentice team.

CCG has a proven track record of working with partner organisations to create employment and provide training opportunities in the local area.

Over the past six months, CCG has won the accolade of Large Employer of the Year (Scotland) at the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Managing Agency Apprenticeship Awards 2014 and secured the coveted Investors in Young People accreditation which recognises and promotes employers who are committed to developing skills and young people.

Arriving at CCG, Ms Ewing said: “CCG are one of a number of Scottish companies to mark themselves out as true Investors In Young People. Ahead of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2015 I was very pleased to meet their apprentices and hear how the company are supporting young women and men enhance their employment prospects through work-based training.”



Welcoming Ms Ewing, Bernie Rooney, financial director, CCG (Scotland) Ltd, added: “We are delighted to welcome Ms Ewing to CCG today to meet some of our apprentices and show our continued commitment to developing the sector’s next generation of skilled trades. Over the past year we have delivered our company’s largest ever apprentice intake, with apprentices representing 10% of our 600 strong workforce.”

During the visit Ms Ewing met a number of the company’s award-winning apprentices including second year apprentice plaster Nadia Swift who said: “I am really enjoying my apprenticeship with CCG as its providing a brilliant opportunity to continually develop my skills. I’m also part of a great team with a range of different skills and have had the opportunity to work on a range of exciting projects including building some of the homes for the 2014 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village in CCG’s Offsite Manufacturing factory.”
