Glasgow launch for Construction Scotland Innovation Centre backed hackathon event

hack-construct-logo-blackHack_Construct, the first hackathon focused on the construction sector outside London, is to take place in Glasgow in February.

The event, which will take place from 26-28 February, at the Whisky Bond in Glasgow aims to bring together a mix of industry professionals and digital experts, hackers and makers to work on solving construction challenges via digital solutions.

It is being organised and delivered by the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre with support from Innovate UK, the Data Lab Scotland and the Knowledge Transfer Network.

Over the course of the weekend, attendees at Hack_Construct will form into teams to tackle various challenges, then present their findings to the other attendees.

Announcing the hackathon, Darren Lester founder of digital products database SpecifiedBy, said: “The aim of the event is to expose talented software developers, designers, data scientists, web designers, gamers and more to the opportunities in the construction industry, and give industry professionals a glimpse into what can be achieved by utilising these skill sets.”

Lester extended an invitation to all those involved in the construction industry, saying: “Whether you’re a construction professional, student or a techy, if you’re interested in coming up with solutions to the challenges in construction sign up to attend for free at hackconstruct.com”

Simon Hart, innovation programme leader for the built environment at Innovate UK, told BIM+: “Innovate UK is proud to support Hack_Construct. Hackathons are a great way to unlock innovation through intensive mass-creation and the guys behind Hack_Construct are no strangers to this emerging trend.

“Construction is the next digital frontier and a lot of startups are going to make it big over the coming years. I’m really looking forward to the event to see what new tech will be created.”
