Green light for affordable housing in Bearsden

East Dunbartonshire Council’s Planning Board has given the green light for new affordable homes to be built in Bearsden.

The board approved planning consent for the construction of 32 new homes at land at Nithsdale Crescent at its meeting last month.

All the homes will be built to Passivhaus standards, which is a building standard ensuring maximum energy efficiency and minimising heat demand – cutting carbon emissions whilst also helping to address fuel poverty by reducing fuel bills for the residents.

The plans also include associated infrastructure such as car parking areas, private garden ground and landscaping. The homes will comprise 24 flats and eight townhouses split across two main blocks with a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom units.

Depute council leader, Calum Smith, said: “The council is committed to providing more new and affordable housing to help manage the housing challenges across the area.

“The development of these new homes is good news at a time when the demand for affordable homes in East Dunbartonshire continues to grow.

“These sites will help to meet the needs and aspirations of our residents who are finding it increasingly difficult to get on the housing ladder.

He added: “I grew up just along the road from where these new homes will be built and I am absolutely delighted that we are moving forward with our plans to regenerate the area and offer high quality housing in an attractive environment.”
