Persimmon Homes North Scotland has officially broken ground on its new Primrose Gardens development at Old Perth Road, Crossgates, marking the start of construction for 191 high-quality, energy-efficient homes.

The milestone was celebrated alongside members of Crossgates & Mossgreen Community Council and Persimmon North Scotland managing director James MacKay.

The development will provide a range of homes suitable for first-time buyers, growing families, and downsizers, with ten properties being transferred to a local housing association to support affordable housing in the area. Persimmon has worked closely with the community council throughout the planning process to ensure Primrose Gardens leaves a lasting legacy for the village.

Residents will benefit from accessible open spaces, public artwork, seating areas, and scenic views, while sustainable features such as solar panels and electric car charging points will help reduce household bills and carbon emissions. The development also includes new active travel links, public footways connecting the site to the wider community and Halbeath Park & Ride, and improvements to existing public areas, creating a high-quality, connected living environment.

James MacKay said: “We’re thrilled to start work on Primrose Gardens. These 191 homes will help meet the growing demand for quality, affordable housing in the area and provide opportunities for local families to own their own home.

“From open spaces and public art to active travel links and new jobs, we’re proud of the benefits this development will deliver and look forward to continuing to work closely with the local community as the project takes shape.”

Gordon Black, chair of Crossgates & Mossgreen Community Council, added: “The Community Council welcomes the addition of energy efficient, low carbon emission homes to our thriving village.

“The consultations between Persimmon and the Community Council have been much welcomed.”
