HLM celebrates prestigious Scottish Design Award win
Design and architecture company HLM has won an award in the renowned Scottish Design Awards 2019 at a prestigious ceremony in Glasgow last week.
Beating off stiff competition in the Architecture: Residential category, HLM was rewarded for the thoughtful and innovative design of Whitehorn Hall student accommodation at the University of St Andrews.
Now in its 22nd year, the Scottish Design Awards have grown to become one of the most established awards for architecture firms and design agencies in the country.
Commenting on the award win, HLM associate Ross Barrett said: “We are absolutely delighted to be awarded this prestigious accolade for our work on the Whitehorn Hall project at The University of St Andrews. It is a fantastic achievement for the whole team, and we are thrilled to gain esteemed industry recognition for our thoughtful design and desire to make spaces that improve lives and inspire.
“With the internationally renowned reputation of the University of St Andrews, we wanted to create a space that built on the traditions of the University, whilst providing world-class, memorable accommodation with the student experience at its heart, allowing the modern student to prosper.”
The Whitehorn Hall project is part of the largest single expansion of student bedrooms in St Andrews for over a decade. HLM worked closely with the client and students to understand the needs of the people who will use the space.
HLM has extensive expertise in the residential and education sector including additional projects with the University of St Andrews, University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde and Sheffield Hallam University.
