Hospitals inquiry chairman makes video appeal for more evidence

Anyone with relevant information which could assist investigations into the construction of two major hospitals have been urged to come forward in a fresh appeal for evidence.

The Scottish Hospitals Inquiry is investigating the construction of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Campus (QEUH) in Glasgow and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and Department of Clinical Neurosciences in Edinburgh.

Inquiry chair Lord Brodie has reminded interested parties that the deadline to apply for Core Participant is closing soon.

Since the Inquiry launched in August, it has heard from representatives of patients and families affected by the issues that arose from the construction of the QEUH and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and Department of Clinical Neurosciences in Edinburgh.

Specific lines of investigation have emerged from the information gathered so far, including the adequacy of ventilation, water contamination and other matters impacted on patient safety and care.

The Inquiry wants to ensure it is capturing everyone’s experiences as it makes progress in the New Year.

Earlier in November, Lord Brodie issued a call for applications for Core Participant status. Under the Inquiry Rules 2007 core participants can include individuals, organisations or entities with a significant interest in an important aspect of the matters to which the Inquiry relates.

If you believe this may apply to you, please apply before the deadline of 31 December 2020. Further information on Core Participants can be found here. Alternatively, if you have any questions regarding this process, you can contact legal@hospitalsinquiry.scot.

You do not need to be a Core Participant to submit information and can do so at any time. Please contact our team on public@hospitalsinquiry.scot to discuss any information you may hold.

Further updates on the progress of the Inquiry will be announced in the New Year, but you can find out more about the Order of Events here.
