JR Group begins first development with North Lanarkshire Council

The JR Group celebrated the official start of its first housing development in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council, with a groundbreaking ceremony at the site on Coshneuk Road, Millerston.

The £4.2 million project is set to transform a former council depot into a vibrant new community of 17 high-quality homes.

The development includes a mix of one- and two-bedroom flats, as well as two, three and four-bedroom houses, along with a specially designed accessible bungalow, offering a diverse range of housing options to meet local needs.

The new homes will feature renewable ground source heat pump systems, solar panels, triple glazing, and advanced insulation, ensuring exceptional energy efficiency, lower carbon emissions, and increased comfort for future tenants.

This milestone project is part of North Lanarkshire Council’s ambitious strategy to deliver 6,000 new homes by 2035. Coshneuk Road sits in a well-established community with strong local amenities.

Gary McGregor, managing director of The JR Group, said: “We’re thrilled to get started on our first project with North Lanarkshire Council.

“It’s a well-thought-out development that reflects our shared commitment to sustainable, high-quality housing that meets the evolving needs of local people.

“We look forward to seeing progress on site over the coming months and to delivering homes that will make a lasting, positive impact on this community.”

North Lanarkshire’s housing convener, Councillor Michael McPake, cut the first sod as work on site gets underway.

He said: “It’s always pleasing to mark the beginning of another new council housing project which will deliver more new homes for our tenants, particularly in an area of high demand.

“We’re making significant progress in delivering our new supply programme, providing jobs, boosting the local economy and building homes for our tenants now and for generations to come.

“It’s all part of our ambition to make North Lanarkshire the place to live and I look forward to watching the new homes progress.”

The development is supported by grant funding from the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme and is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
