JR Scaffold Services shortlisted for accolade at Scaffolding Excellence Awards

Walton Building

JR Scaffold Services has been shortlisted for the Project of the Year (large category) at the Scaffolding Excellence Awards 2026, in recognition of its work on the restoration project at the B-listed Walton Building located at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

This year, the Scaffolding Excellence Awards saw an increase of 40% in submissions compared with the previous year.

JR Scaffold Services has been commended for its delivery of one of Scotland’s most challenging scaffolding projects, supporting vital roof renovation works at the Walton Building.

Serving as as lead contractor on the project, the company designed a scaffolding solution that made safe access to the building possible.

The project saw a number of complex engineering and logistical challenges.

Situated in Glasgow’s Central Conservation Area, the Walton Building is located above a historic tunnel network, meaning the scaffolding could not have traditional load-bearing pressure on the ground underneath.

In collaboration with Gallery Access Solutions and Coltart Earley Architecture, JR Scaffold Services delivered an innovative beam-supported, double-gabled scaffold and installed a fully rolling temporary roof to safeguard the building during renovation.

JR Scaffold Services also presented its commitment to strengthening industry skills by recreating the scaffold design at its headquarters before the project, enabling operatives to undertake practical familiarisation training before work on the site was underway.

John Horne, managing director of The JR Group, said: “To be shortlisted for a Scaffolding Excellence Award is a tremendous achievement for everyone involved and reflects the exceptional standards our team delivers on every project. These awards represent the very best of our industry, so to be recognised alongside some of the UK’s leading scaffolding specialists is something we are incredibly proud of.

“The Walton Building was an exceptionally complex project that demanded innovative engineering, detailed planning and seamless collaboration with our client and project partners. Our team embraced every challenge, delivering a safe, high-quality solution while ensuring the hospital could continue operating without disruption.”

The winners of the Scaffolding Excellence Awards 2026 are scheduled to be announced on 11 September during the annual awards ceremony, which will take place at Manchester Central.
