Major milestone for UK’s largest green hydrogen project

Statera Energy has secured a resolution to grant planning permission from Aberdeenshire Council for the UK’s largest green hydrogen project.

Kintore Hydrogen could create thousands of jobs, delivering £400 million to the Aberdeenshire economy, and is projected to deliver £1 billion of economic benefits to the UK economy over the project lifecycle, supporting economic growth and the just transition for the UK’s major industrial clusters.

A groundbreaking project for the UK energy system, and Statera’s largest consented project to date, Kintore represents the best way to produce hydrogen at scale and at the lowest cost to consumer. It will produce green hydrogen using abundant power from Scottish wind farms that could otherwise be turned off, saving billions in wind curtailment costs whilst providing significant carbon savings.

The first 500 MW of operational capacity is expected to be online by 2030, and the green hydrogen produced by Kintore Hydrogen will play an essential role in decarbonising the UK’s carbon-intensive sectors, such as heavy industry and flexible power generation, as well as facilitating long duration storage and the UK’s energy security.
