Martin Smith returns to Muir Group as CEO
Muir Group has appointed former colleague Martin Smith as its new CEO.
Martin joins the Fife-based company from ISG where he was director of operations for major projects, having held a number of senior management positions, including area director for Miller Construction, managing director (Central Region) for Robertson Group and divisional director at Interserve Construction.
Martin’s first role in the industry following his graduation from the University of Strathclyde in 1994, was as an engineer with Muir Group where he gained invaluable knowledge and experience enabling him to progress a career in project management. The extensive contractual and legal knowledge Martin possesses today is underpinned by his LLM in Construction Law and experience garnered as an expert witness working on behalf of some of the UK’s leading law firms.
Muir Group comprises a diverse portfolio of six subsidiaries including construction, homes, timber systems, property development, and property investment arms, as well as owning and operating Deer Park Golf and Country Club in Livingston. Last year, Muir had a turnover of £85 million with net assets of £87m.
Martin Smith said: “Despite the many economic challenges faced by our industry over recent years, Muir Group has retained its position as one of the most highly respected family businesses in the country, led by our founder John Muir.
“Having joined Muir Group at the start of my career 30 years ago, I feel very privileged to return in the capacity of CEO and look forward to engaging positively with the many talented people across the company and our supply chain, as we work together to strengthen our position in the marketplace and achieve our shared goal of future growth across the group.”
John Muir, chairman, Muir Group, added: “Martin is a seasoned leader with a proven track record of driving organisational growth and fostering a culture of both collaboration and innovation. With his deep understanding of our industry and his exceptional ability to align strategic goals with operational excellence, we are confident that Martin will lead us into a new era of success.
“As we embark on this new chapter, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead, working as a cohesive team, to achieve even greater success and make Muir Group the industry leader we aspire to be.”
