McConnell strengthens principal contracting capabilities as revenues set to exceed £20m

The company said its initial business strategy to carry out more main contract refurbishment works has gained real traction and enabled the business to naturally and organically evolve into a mainstream multi-disciplinary principal contractor whilst still supporting its roofing, cladding and coatings divisions, which utilise their skilled direct labour force.

With a proven track record of project delivery on external refurbishment and planned maintenance for both public and private sector clients, McConnell celebrated success throughout the UK in 2021 with projects such as:

  • External fabric upgrades (2021-2023) for Perth & Kinross Council at a value of c.£4.5m
  • Hangar refurbishment at RAF Lossiemouth £2m
  • External repair & refurbishment, Cricklewood, London for Thames Water £750k
  • Over-roofing to St Ninian’s PS for West Lothian Council at £300k
  • Roofing upgrades, Stratford Close for Swindon Borough Council at £650k
  • Major repairs, Sandal Magna Community Academy for Wakefield City Council at £3m

  • Re-roofing of Eurac Poole’s manufacturing facility, Poole, for MAT Foundry Group at £650k
  • Internal & external refurbishment of Mytchett House, Chichester, for AMEY Defence at £1.5m.

McConnell also secured high ranking places as appointed contractors on a number of frameworks that continue to build on their multi-disciplinary principal contracting experience, with partner organisations including:

  • LHC (London Housing Consortium)
  • PfH (Procurement for Housing)
  • Fusion 21
  • SPA (Scottish Procurement Alliance)
  • Thames Water.
  • COOP
  • Sainsburys

The company’s exciting growth has been a huge factor in attracting industry experienced, talented individuals to the business and as it heads into the New Year, 2022 looks to be extremely positive for McConnell.

Eamonn McGarvey, managing director, said: “We are delighted with the direction the business is taking. When COVID hit, it impacted on us all in one way or another, however we have managed to adapt to the present market conditions and deliver increased revenues and forward order book.

“We have invested in highly experienced members of staff who are passionate about the work we carry out professionally, ethically, sustainably and above all, responsibly. Our success over the years is all down to a combination of our talented people, diverse client base, relationships built on reputation and trust, and most importantly, the quality of our work.

“The natural evolution from a Specialist Roofing Contractor into a mainstream Principal Contractor, with specialist contracting capabilities, brings fresh drive and ambition to the business, and we are keen to continue being a supportive partner and contractor of choice for our clients.

“We aim to continue adapting to our client’s needs and the requirements for providing best value through the various procurement routes and frameworks applicable. McConnell has the specialist knowledge, resource and expertise, to get involved at early stages of design. We now have a dynamic multi-disciplined staff and workforce with increased capacity to successfully deliver large value quality projects.”
