McTaggart marks 80 years with £25,000 donation to homelessness charity

Social housing contractor McTaggart Construction has donated £25,000 to the homelessness charity, Simon Community Scotland, which forms part of its charitable giving programme to mark its 80th anniversary.

The donation will aid several of Simon Community Scotland’s initiatives within Glasgow and North Lanarkshire, with funding allocated to several key areas.

The charity provides safe places, support and hope to people who are homeless. This includes support hubs, emergency and supported accommodation, support to retain a
tenancy and assistance for people moving into homes of their own.

The charity also oversees Scotland’s first Managed Alcohol Programme.

A major part of the donation has been directed to the Connect Hub in Glasgow, a safe space for homeless women, effectively paying for the running costs of the Hub for a fortnight.

Funding has also been put aside for opportunities and experience days in North Lanarkshire, and for the Make a House a Home initiative, which helps people transition into settled accommodation following homelessness.

The rest of the donation has been allocated towards improvements to the community gardens managed through the charity’s Managed Alcohol Programme, with the newly refreshed garden area being an indicator of the investment which has gone ahead.

Janice Russell, managing director of McTaggart Construction, commented: “Marking our 80th anniversary has given us the opportunity to reflect on the communities
we’ve built and worked in over eight decades.

“Supporting Simon Community Scotland’s work feels like the right thing to do. The services they provide, particularly for women experiencing homelessness, make a real and lasting difference to people’s lives. We hope this donation goes some way towards sustaining that vital Work.”

Lorraine McGrath, CEO of Simon Community Scotland, said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone at McTaggart Construction for their generous support, through
their extremely kind donation and the hands on support to improve our garden space at our Managed Alcohol Programme.

“The team at McTaggart Construction have demonstrated exceptional understanding of our values, work and ambition to direct their donation to key areas that will make a real difference to the lives of people we support, our safe places and our team.”

The funding forms part of a wider pledge by McTaggart to support Scottish communities, with a total of £80,000 being donated to three organisations as part of the firm’s 2026 80th anniversary programme.
