Morris & Spottiswood kicks off programme of works for Co-op

Morris & Spottiswood has begun work on a full refit project for Co-op Food as the first in an extensive programme of works for the major retailer.

The contract, in Whaley Bridge, Stockport, will involve a complete strip-out of the existing unit down to the building shell, before being fully rebuilt in a revamped retail layout.

The project is part of a wider programme of works awarded by the Co-op, marking a significant chapter in the relationship between the two companies which first began over 18 months ago when Morris & Spottiswood was selected as a delivery partner.

With projects planned from Kingussie in the Highlands to Bedford in the south of England, the Whaley Bridge store is the first of seven refits starting within the coming weeks, being delivered by the national operator, which is celebrating its centenary year this year.

Richard Oldfield, retail director of Morris & Spottiswood, said: “We’re delighted to commence work on this new programme, not only as a main contractor but also marking the start of what we hope will be a growing partnership with the Co-op across multiple workstreams.

“Whilst ensuring buildings are fully compliant and fit for purpose, we also look forward to addressing the unique challenges within each project to ensure that premises not only function as successful convenience stores, but provide enhanced environments for colleagues to work in.”
