Nearly £1.8 million has been invested across Angus through the Seagreen Offshore Wind Community Benefit Fund, including £590,000 in and around Montrose to support community-led regeneration, skills development and local facilities.
As part of this investment, £125,000 has been awarded to ProMo, a volunteer‑led group working to revive Montrose High Street. The funding is supporting efforts to bring vacant properties back into use and offer affordable rents to local businesses.
The award has enabled ProMo to employ a Development Officer, helping the group secure additional funding and accelerate its community‑led regeneration plans.
David Paton, chairman of ProMo Montrose Development and Improvement SCIO, said: “Seagreen’s support has been critical in helping us build momentum behind the regeneration of Montrose High Street. It has allowed us to bring empty buildings back into use, support local enterprises and rebuild confidence in the town centre through a community‑driven approach.”
A further £125,000 has been awarded to Montrose Community Trust to support the development of The Gable End, a new community learning and support facility at the local football stadium. Due to open later in 2026, the centre will provide skills development and training opportunities for local people.
In the Ferryden and Craig area, where the Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm’s Operations and Maintenance base is located, £250,000 has been awarded to projects focused on improving the local environment and accessibility of outdoor spaces. This includes upgrades to the path network leading to the lighthouse, alongside wider enhancements to local green spaces to improve access and usability for the community.
Ewan Latimer, general manager for Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm, added: “Supporting communities close to the Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm is a core part of Seagreen’s commitment to being a responsible operator. Since the fund was established, communities have delivered practical projects that are making a real difference locally.
“By working closely with community councils, Seagreen has been able to shape funding models that respond to local priorities in Angus and deliver lasting benefits.”
Alongside the community benefit fund, a separate £400,000 STEM Fund has supported science, technology, engineering and maths skills development across Angus and Dundee. Through this fund, Seagreen has supported the creation of the new Skills for the Future Lab in Arbroath, delivered in partnership with Dundee and Angus College.
Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm is a joint venture between SSE (49%), TotalEnergies (25.5%) and PTTEP (25.5%). SSE operates the wind farm and manages the community investment programmes on behalf of the joint venture partners.
