New Greggs drive-thru for Westhill approved

Plans for the first drive-thru Greggs in the north east have been approved, with the new bakery site set to be built in Westhill.

A café will also be built with seating for 28 diners, so customers still have the option to sit in. if they wish.

Greggs submitted plans with Aberdeenshire Council for the new development at Venture Way in June last year. The site will have 29 car parking spaces and 12 electric vehicle bays with charging points. Outdoor seating will also be provided.

The new Greggs will sit on a site between the existing McDonald’s and Starbucks drive-thrus. The move will create 20 full and part–time jobs and the drive–thru is expected to be open seven days a week from 6am to 9pm, The Press and Journal reports.

Westhill and Elrick Community Council did not object to the plan, but said the town was at risk of being seen as a “fast food drive–thru hub”.

However, the proposal received support from Aberdeenshire Council, whose planners revealed that the site had failed to attract any interest before, despite marketing efforts. They said the new Greggs would “complement the existing and future business space”.

Planners also said that the believed the drive-thru could attract further investment to the Arnhall Business Park and is a “suitable addition” to the area.

The application was considered by the Garioch area committee in mid-December where the project was unanimously approved.
