Survey opens on proposed Stirling active travel route

Feedback is being sought on proposed designs for an active travel route along a section of Burghmuir Road, Stirling.

The route would connect St Ninians Roundabout with Craigs Roundabout and the emerging Viewforth development. It is one of four proposed active travel corridors for the south of Stirling city centre, the others being the A9 in Bannockburn, St Ninians Road and Glasgow Road.

The new infrastructure on Burghmuir Road would enable onward journeys to the city centre, the University of Stirling and beyond via the Walk, Cycle, Live Stirling infrastructure on Upper Craigs, as well as the train and bus station.

Users would also be able to connect to the proposed active travel routes on Kerse Road, allowing access to the new development at Forthside and Springkerse industrial and retail parks.

Residents and organisations can have their say on the proposal in an online survey that includes questions on the type of infrastructure, the location of proposed crossings and other key design elements.

The survey will close at midnight on Monday 12 January.

The South Stirling active travel routes could form a key part of the region’s future transport system, enabling more people to walk, wheel and cycle, along with enhancing connections between communities and the city centre. They would be located on Burghmuir Road, the A9 in Bannockburn, St Ninians Road and Glasgow Road, converging at St. Ninians Roundabout.

Design and construction of new active travel infrastructure is being funded externally through grant funding from the Scottish Government’s active and sustainable travel budget via Transport Scotland.

Residents, community groups and other stakeholders can learn more online about the project, including graphics of how the proposed routes may look on each road, on the Engage Stirling website.
