Proposals by Abertay Housing Association to build 31 affordable homes in Dundee have been recommended for approval.

An application was lodged last year seeking permission to build affordable housing on vacant land that sits between Clepington Road in the north and Kingspark School to the south.

A mix of two and three-bedroom semi-detached houses and two-bedroom flats is planned for the site.

Designed by Wellwood Leslie Architects, the proposal also includes a new junction from Clepington Road.

The site has historically been used for agricultural and limited residential use and most recently as playing fields for St Johns RC High School.

Objections against the plans have raised concerns such as a loss of open space and school playing fields; the impact on the security and wellbeing of pupils at the neighbouring school; the impact on wildlife and protected species; the impact on the Miley nature trail; a potential increase in traffic accidents; and the impacts on schools from the additional population in the area.

But in a report drafted for councillors, planning officers said the land had not been used as a school pitch for “a considerable time”.

They also said an ecological survey found no protected species.

The report concluded there would be “no significant impact to the Miley”.

Dundee City Council’s planning committee will decide on the application when it meets on Monday.
