Planning minister to officially open new RICS HQ

RICS Scotland’s new headquarters will be officially opened today by Minister for Local Government and Planning, Derek Mackay, MSP.

Located at 125 Princes Street the new, state of the art offices also host Planning Aid Scotland, Built Environment Forum Scotland and the Scottish Arbitration Centre, providing a collaborative built environment hub in the heart of Scotland’s capital city.

RICS Scotland was previously situated in Manor Place, home to the organisation for 75 years.

Sarah Speirs, director RICS Scotland, said: “Throughout this process we have been very keen to recognise and utilise the professional skills and expertise of our members, including the talents of our building surveying members, who we have now been working on the design and fit out of our transformational space at 125 Princes Street for the past couple of months.

“It is no mean feat moving 75 years of history, however, this modern home for RICS continues to provide value to the membership and demonstrate the central role RICS plays in Scotland’s built environment industry.

“Our move to 125 marks a new era for RICS Scotland as we move forward as a modern professional organisation. The new offices for RICS Scotland will fulfil essentially two functions through the management and administration of the profession in Scotland and as a hub for members and member activities such as seminars, conferences and networking.”

Over 100 professionals from the built environment industry joined the RICS executive team at the opening of the new offices, which used modern BIM modelling in designing the offices as a best practice example for industry.

Local Government and Planning Minister, Derek Mackay, said:“These new offices are an exciting opportunity for the RICS to improve its service and work with other property organisations within this new industry hub.

“The Scottish Government looks forward to continuing to build on its relationship with the RICS as it progresses its land reform, construction procurement and community empowerment agendas.”
