Plans secured for new Edinburgh Airport hotel

Hampton hotel Edinburgh AirportA deal to bring a new £15 million hotel development to Edinburgh Airport by next year has been secured.

National planning consultancy Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners (NLP) first mooted the deal in November following a surge in traveller numbers at the airport in 2014.

Now a record-breaking summer for passengers in 2015 has seen the plans move forward.

The new Hampton by Hilton hotel will comprise 6.500sq ft. providing a minimum of 175 bedrooms of 3-star quality or above on Almond Avenue, close to the airport terminal.

John Watson, chief commercial officer at Edinburgh Airport, said: “The Hampton by Hilton build is part of our ongoing expansion plans which include the much needed provision of more on-airport accommodation space and we are delighted to have worked with great partners and advisors to complete this deal.”

Glasgow based Weightmans (Scotland) LLP provided real estate assistance to the land owner Edinburgh Airport Limited and negotiated and completed the development agreement as well as the ground lease for this deal.

Bryan Finlayson, partner and real estate expert at Weightmans, said: “It’s great to see Edinburgh Airport secure such a significant development, which will boost tourism in Scotland, provide much needed accommodation close to the airport and increase passenger choice. Substantial effort has been put into completing this deal and the development is a great result for Edinburgh Airport.”
