Plans submitted for new student accommodation in Stirling city centre

Crawford Holdings Ltd has submitted plans to Stirling Council for a change of use from storage to student accommodation in Stirling city centre.

The plans would see the creation of a new student halls block on land behind 21 Dumbarton Road East.

In documents submitted with the application, agents for the applicant said the existing building was used as part of a restaurant on Dumbarton Road but has since been separated, while the remainder of the site is unused land and currently fenced off.

If approved, the existing building would be subject to layout changes to accommodate two student flats with eight (five and three) single occupancy bedrooms, The Stirling Observer reports.

The proposed new build would accommodate the two student flats with eight (five and three) single occupancy bedrooms.

The planning documents read: “Due to the city centre location, the development does not make allowances for on-site parking. This is allowable in the planning guidance.

“The city centre location and proximity to Stirling University makes the location very desirable for student accommodation.

“All buildings accessed from Crosbies Court are residential in nature and therefore the proposed use would not vary significantly from the uses of the surrounding buildings, nor would it create much additional vehicular traffic on Crosbies Court.”

It concluded: “Overall, the construction styles and materials used in the immediate vicinity of the site show much variance.” Council planners will make a recommendation in due course.”
