Pre-construction and enabling works underway at new Dunfermline neighbourhood

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland will begin a programme of pre-construction ground remediation works from today as part of the delivery of the new Whitefields neighbourhood in Dunfermline.

Work will take place in the vicinity of the former Wester Whitefield Farm, off Whitefield Road, as efficiently as possible to minimise any inconvenience to members of the local community.

It follows the successful completion of enabling work off Whitefield Road which included the demolition of the Wester Whitefield farm buildings.

As Whitefields progresses, there will be a substantial range of benefits to the local community including:

  • - The creation of around 1,400 new properties offering a range of apartments as well as detached, semi-detached and terraced homes to appeal to a wide range of potential home-buyers.
  • A new primary school.
  • Provision for shops and community facilities.
  • 25% affordable homes.
  • New cycleways and pedestrian footpaths to encourage green active travel throughout the development that will also connect with the existing local communities.
  • Key transport infrastructure improvements to Kingseat Road (West) and Whitefield Road (B912).
  • Incorporation of the new Northern Link Road into the development including pedestrian crossings to provide a safe route to schools.
  • Meadow grasslands to provide future homeowners with access to beautiful green open spaces to encourage healthy and sustainable living.
  • An equipped play area and an outdoor meeting space in Phase One of the development.
  • Measures to enhance the area for local wildlife and improve biodiversity through the inclusion of features such as bug hotels, and hedgehog highways.

Pauline Mills, land and planning director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “We are very pleased to be continuing to make good progress in the significant preparations required to create our new neighbourhood Whitefields.

“Our programme of infrastructure and enabling works will take a number of months to complete and allow us to start our preparations to build our first new homes at Whitefields later this year.

“With the delivery of around 1,400 new homes, the creation of major new infrastructure and improvements to existing transport links, as well as the provision of substantial community benefits, Whitefields will be a brand-new community and place to call home in North Dunfermline.

“This development will have its roots firmly in North Dunfermline while supporting the existing local communities of Kingseat and Halbeath as its new community develops and grows.”
