Proposals for £1.65m to help revitalise Troon

South Ayrshire Council is set to consider investing around £1.65 million to help transform Troon.
If agreement is given at the meeting of full council on 18 September, three projects will be progressed - the extension of Troon Leisure Club, the internal refurbishment of Troon Municipal Buildings and improvements to the town’s public realm.
If approved, £500,000 will be used to help to create a new fitness gym and multi-functional studio at Troon Leisure Club. This will see changing areas refurbished, new baby changing facilities added and improved accessibility.
The report states that Troon Municipal Buildings will receive a £1m internal makeover. This includes a string of improvements including the revamp of the kitchen and a new bar located next to the Concert Hall. Full rewiring will take place at the Walker Hall and new lighting, rigging and an audio system would be added to both the Walker Hall and the Concert Hall.
If agreed, the remaining funding will be used to improve the public realm around the municipal chamber. Feasibility work will be carried out to identify further areas for improvement and may include new paving, seating, planters, trees as well as public art.
Chris Cox, assistant director for planning and development at South Ayrshire Council, said: “If agreed, this funding will help to revitalise Troon. We want to boost footfall into the heart of the town, and provide vibrant and accessible areas for walking, cycling, and recreation.
“Providing fitness, leisure and community facilities which meet the needs of locals and visitors is a key ambition. We also want to boost health and wellbeing and the expansion of leisure facilities will help to meet demand. Troon has a popular café culture, and this is something we are keen to support through the public realm works.”
