Public consultation opens on updated East Airdrie Link Road plans
North Lanarkshire Council has launched the next phase of public consultation for the proposed East Airdrie Link Road (EALR).
The consultation, which runs until 26 October, invites residents to review and comment on an updated road alignment.
The new single-carriageway road is designed to improve local infrastructure by connecting the M8 at the A73 Newhouse Interchange to the A73 north of Stand and Riggend. It will also provide essential access to the new Monklands Hospital at Wester Moffat. The project aims to reduce journey times, enhance transport reliability, and improve air quality by relieving congestion on the existing A73.
This latest consultation presents a revised route that incorporates public feedback from previous engagement events held in November and June. The council states these changes better integrate the road with local networks, improve access and active travel connections, and lessen the environmental impact on land, ecology, and woodland.
As part of the formal planning application process, the public can view the updated maps and details of a proposed Towers Road Link on the council’s website. A series of drop-in events will also be held for residents to learn more and ask questions:
- Thursday 2 October: Caldervale High School, 5:00pm to 7:00pm
- Tuesday 7 October: Airdrie Library, 2:00pm to 7:00pm
- Thursday 9 October: Chapelhall Library, 2:00pm to 7:00pm
- Tuesday 21 October: Cumbernauld Library, 2:00pm to 7:00pm
The development of the EALR is being led by the council as part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal. Feedback from this consultation will inform the final road alignment submitted in the full planning application.
