Public invited to help shape safer, greener streets in Anderston and Kelvingrove

Kent Road toward Argyle Street
Residents and businesses in Anderston and Kelvingrove are being invited to share their views on proposed plans to improve local streets and public spaces.
Two consultations are now live focused on the Anderston Liveable Neighbourhood and Connecting Yorkhill and Kelvingrove projects.
Updated design proposals for both initiatives illustrate how these neighbourhoods could be transformed into greener, more attractive spaces, while also making it safer and easier for people to get around by walking, wheeling, or cycling.
Plans for the Anderston Liveable Neighbourhood build on earlier community feedback, and focus on improving the environment for pedestrians at Kent Road, Brechin Street, Claremont Street, Breadalbane Street and Dover Street.
Proposed changes include upgrading pavements with dropped kerbs and tactile paving, improving pedestrian crossings, and adding new infrastructure such as cycle shelters, green planting and enhanced drainage.
Alongside this, the latest phase of the Connecting Yorkhill and Kelvingrove project is also open for comment. Proposals include an enhanced public realm outside Exhibition Centre Train Station, with plans aiming to create a more inviting and accessible space that supports sustainable travel.
This project also explores how Corunna Street, Minerva Street and St Vincent Crescent could be improved to better support walking, wheeling and cycling, while creating more welcoming and accessible public spaces. Proposed improvements include making Corunna Street one-way northbound with a dedicated southbound cycle lane, upgrading pavements and crossings, and adding clearer signage to improve wayfinding.
Councillor Angus Millar, city convener for transport, said: “These proposals for the Anderston and Kelvingrove areas have the potential to create safer, more attractive streets at the heart of the neighbourhood.
“Through ongoing investment in improving our public spaces, Glasgow is being transformed - and these consultations are a great way for local residents and businesses to help shape these plans for Anderston and Kelvingrove.
“Proposals for an enhanced public realm outside Exhibition Centre Train Station would benefit both residents and visitors to the area, as would plans for greening, upgraded pavements and improved crossing points across St Vincent Crescent, Minerva Street and Corunna Street.”
He added: “Meanwhile, the proposals for Kent Road and the surrounding streets would transform this busy corridor into a safer, more accessible and people-focused environment. By introducing wider pavements, improved crossing points and traffic calming measures, we’re placing pedestrians and those who wheel at the heart of the design to create more attractive and welcoming streets for everyone.
“I would encourage everyone in the community to get involved and share their views. These proposals are shaped by local priorities, and your feedback is essential to ensuring the final designs reflect the needs and aspirations of those who live, work and visit here.”
