Renewed consent sought for Dundee city centre flats

A new planning application has been submitted for a previously consented proposal to deliver 28 flats above three retail units in Dundee city centre after the original submission expired.

Brechin-based architecture firm A B Roger and Young is seeking to replace a six-storey corner building at 28-30 Trades Lane between the former HSS tool hire store and the old DP&L building in South Marketgait with a seven-floor new build block.

Councillors approved the original application back in 2019.

In a design statement, the architects observed: “The pre-application response raised some concern over the scale and massing of the proposed building in relation to its impact on the character of nearby buildings. A recommendation to increase the ceiling height of the retail units to reflect the building to the west and to remove a level from the building was taken on board.

“The materials to be used on the new building include stone on the ground floor to match listed buildings nearby finished with a mixed palette of grey metal sheeting above.”
