Construction, infrastructure, property and support services business Robertson Group has announced its support for Homes for Scotland’s Homes Build Futures campaign, which aims to address the housing emergency by increasing supply across all tenures to ensure safe, secure homes are available for everyone in Scotland.
For almost 60 years, Robertson Group has been delivering high-quality social and private homes for communities across Scotland and North East England through its residential businesses, Urban Union, Robertson Partnership Homes and Robertson Homes.
Robertson Group has now formally pledged its support to the campaign, which calls for Scotland to deliver 25,000 new homes across all tenures each year. Supporting the campaign promotes a collaborative approach across the sector and encourages partnerships with local authorities, registered social landlords and private developers to meet the growing housing demand.
The Homes Build Futures campaign describes Scotland as facing a housing emergency, with 693,000 households in some form of housing need, 250,000 people on waiting lists and a shortfall of more than 110,000 homes accumulated since 2008. Created by industry body Homes for Scotland, it aims to elevate housing supply as a top policy in the run-up to next year’s Scottish Parliament election.
The campaign also highlights the housing sector’s vital contribution to Scotland’s economy, supporting tens of thousands of jobs and driving local investment across supply chains and communities.
Elliot Robertson, chief executive officer, Robertson Group, said: “We support the call for a national all-tenure target of at least 25,000 new homes each year to help address the housing emergency while supporting jobs, local economies and ensuring everyone has a safe place to call home. Through our delivery of high-quality, energy-efficient and sustainable homes, we have seen first-hand the meaningful difference they make in creating and supporting thriving communities.
“That difference extends to the long-lasting social and economic benefits that keep the pound local and create opportunities in the communities where homes are built. We support the campaign and urge others to pledge their commitment to help tackle the housing challenges people face.”
