Members of Robertson Group attended Bannockburn High School’s Annual Awards where they joined pupils to celebrate their academic and vocational achievements.

The infrastructure giant provided £2000 sponsorship for the event, which was held in Stirling’s Albert Halls, marking the end of a successful second year of partnership with Bannockburn High.

This valuable partnership presents pupils with a series of opportunities, including: work experience placements for students and teachers, site visits, employability skills sessions, industry-related practical sessions and mentoring.

Robertson’s Talent Team attended the awards, including former Bannockburn High pupil Cameron Cowan, who is now training and development administrator for the Group. Representing the Robertson board was Stuart Roberts, group finance director.

Stuart Roberts said: “Young people are the future of our business which is why we take great interest in developing their confidence and giving them the skills to embark on a career in the built environment. Collaborations like this one allow us to practice what we preach and we are incredibly privileged to be in a position where we can create opportunities for young people.”

Brian Millar, Bannockburn High School acting headteacher, said: “This sponsorship was very generous and has covered the entire awards ceremony. There was much to celebrate, following some strong improvements in examination results for the school and the achievements of the young people.”

Robertson’s sponsorship donation is just one of many activities held in partnership with Bannockburn High School, with a focus on long-term goals and mutual benefits.

Lesley Rodger, training & development advisor at Robertson Group, explained how this benefits Robertson: “This partnership helps Robertson to address the wider issue of the skills gap in construction, engineering and the other sectors we operate in. We are delighted when the pupils show an interest in working at Robertson. However, the partnership is much broader than this as it provides the pupils with the skills necessary to successfully enter the world of work.”

Robertson has its own Young People Strategy which aims to create an environment that encourages young people to develop and progress towards achieving their full potential. The strategy contributes towards succession planning and ensures there is a continual influx of talent at entry level, removing the reliance on external recruitment for managerial, leadership and technical roles.

The firm offers apprentice-level and trainee vacancies each year, exclusive to Bannockburn High pupils. The recruitment process for the vacancies will develop the pupils’ interview and presentation skills as well as building their self-esteem and confidence. Those successful will be developed and encouraged within their chosen field.
