Held at the Houses of Parliament in London earlier this week, the awards were established in 1994 as an annual campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.

Robertson was recognised at the ceremony for its commitment to environmental responsibility. Demonstrating strong carbon reduction leadership within its sector, the company has made significant strides in decarbonising its business, supply chain and projects. Robertson became one of the first UK businesses in the built environment to achieve carbon neutrality in 2018 and has achieved ‘climate positive’ status well ahead of its Net Zero 2030 target.

Having previously delivered ground-breaking energy-saving projects across the UK, Robertson continues to support the reduction of energy consumption in the built environment whilst championing local and national government targets.

Robertson Facilities Management has already delivered significant reductions to carbon emissions and energy bills through its Newcastle schools decarbonisation programme. This has helped the local authority access funding and then deliver decarbonisation measures including fabric upgrades, systems replacements and renewables. It is saving 250 tonnes of operational carbon each year alongside £350,000 in cost savings a year.

Robertson Construction Tayside also recently delivered the first Passivhaus schools in Scotland, Riverside Primary School. This state-of-the-art school delivers a 75% reduction in energy use compared to a traditional design and construction.

This award means that Robertson has become a Green World Ambassador and will receive automatic entry into the Green World Awards in Brazil next year.

As a responsible business, Robertson is recognised by UN Climate Neutral Now for carbon initiatives, and holds Platinum status from Zero Waste Scotland. The business is also a founding signatory of the Sustainable Market Initiative’s (SMI) Terra Carta, a guiding mandate which provides a roadmap and framework to accelerate the transition to an ambitious and sustainable future, placing Nature, People and Planet at the heart of global value creation.
