The Scottish Building Federation (SBF) has appointed Ross Mathie as its new technical and commercial manager.

He will take over the role from Ian Honeyman, who will shortly retire after making a considerable contribution to the work of the federation throughout his career.

Ross joins SBF from Headon Developments in St Andrews and brings a wealth of experience to the federation, with a proven track record in the construction industry. His background as a company director and Chartered Quantity Surveyor encompasses technical standards, regulatory compliance and commercial strategy.

In his new role, Ross will provide expert commercial advice and guidance directly to SBF members, helping to resolve disputes, supporting debt recovery cases and answering technical and contractual queries.

He will act as a key liaison with government agencies and industry bodies and facilitate training programmes to support professional development within the SBF membership.

Ross said: “I’m really looking forward to getting started and supporting the members of the Scottish Building Federation. I have first-hand experience of the value that SBF can add to members and I’m excited about the opportunity to utilise the experience that I have gathered over the years to help contractors of all sizes.”

Operations director Paul Mitchell said: “We are delighted to welcome Ross to the Scottish Building Federation. His experience and knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to develop and deliver a comprehensive in-house business support service to our members.

“We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Ian Honeyman for his years of dedicated service and the significant contribution that he has made to the federation.”

The Scottish Building Federation celebrates its 130th anniversary this year.
