Scottish Engineering elects Kerrie Murray as president
Kerrie Murray
For the first time in over 160 years, Scottish Engineering has appointed its first North East-based President.
Kerrie Murray, chief financial officer at Aberdeen-headquartered THREE60 Energy, was appointed to the position by the Scottish Engineering executive board at its annual meeting.
Kerrie is the third consecutive woman to take on the position and will hold the office of President for two years, with Ross Galbraith, ScottishPower Renewables’ UK & Ireland Onshore Construction and operations director, assuming the position of vice president.
Scottish Engineering is the industry membership association for engineering and manufacturing in Scotland, with a heritage dating back to 1865. It connects and supports member organisations across a diverse, modern, and forward-looking sector, and its membership accounts for over one third of all employment in engineering and manufacturing in Scotland. From the largest international names in engineering through to medium-sized and small businesses, it covers every region of Scotland.
Commenting on her appointment as President, Kerrie Murray said: “It’s an incredible honour and a very humbling experience to become the 90th President in Scottish Engineering’s 160-year history, representing the North East and becoming the third female President in a row following Bernie and Aine’s footsteps. It is an absolute privilege.
“Both of those ladies are so inspiring, and when you think about the legacy and the calibre of the leaders who have held this position before, it really puts into perspective the responsibility and privilege that comes with it. Personally, I feel proud, not just for myself, but for the team and the industry that I represent.”
Commenting on his appointment as vice president, Ross Galbraith, added: “I am really proud to be appointed as the Vice President of Scottish Engineering and look forward to working with Kerrie to support the organisation, its members and the wider sector. I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to a profession that has given me so much.
Scottish Engineering plays a vital role in championing engineers and the impact they have on our society, and I look forward to working with Paul, Kerrie and Bernie along with colleagues across the organisation to help build on this strong legacy.”
Scottish Engineering’s chief executive, Paul Sheerin, commented: “I am delighted to continue working with Kerrie and Bernie, and to welcome Ross as he joins this group. Our industry is at a pivotal moment, facing significant challenges alongside tremendous opportunities, and I believe that strong leadership is essential to ensure we navigate this period successfully.
“These appointments reflect Scottish Engineering’s proud tradition of attracting outstanding commitment and expertise from industry leaders to serve as President, Vice President and Past President. Kerrie has shown exceptional dedication to mentorship, supporting established talent within the sector to reach their full potential, while also giving her time to help guide the next generation who will shape the future of engineering in Scotland.”
