The progress of a £6.5 million, three-year research and development project to transform housebuilding to meet net-zero carbon targets will be high on the agenda at Futurebuild today.

Housebuilder Stewart Milne Group is one of several organisations involved in the Advanced Industrialised Methods for Construction of Homes (AIMCH) project, the outcomes of which will be presented at the construction industry’s largest event focused on sustainability being held at the ExCel in London from 1 to 3 March.

AIMCH project director, Stewart Dalgarno, who is innovation and sustainability director with Stewart Milne Group, will present a blueprint for the industry to support the delivery of quality and sustainable homes, more quickly and in a more productive way that is also commercially viable.

AIMCH was established to find industry-wide solutions that tackle the challenges faced by the sector in delivering tens of thousands of new and sustainable homes across the UK at pace.

The partners in AIMCH - Stewart Milne Group, Barratt Developments PLC, L&Q, the Manufacturing Technology Centre, the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre and Forster Roofing Services Ltd - have been collaborating, researching and trialling near-to-market, scalable housing solutions for the last three years.

Mr Dalgarno said: “The pace and scale of collaboration and innovation, witnessed over the past three years, have provided a range of solutions that will act as a real catalyst for the housing sector to move towards housing industrialisation, embracing modern methods of construction, digital integrated manufacturing, lean construction, and design standardisation.

“What we have delivered is a showcase for developers, housing associations and SMEs to bring affordable quality housing to market quickly and cost effectively, and in a way that reduces our carbon impact.

“The project partners at AIMCH are proud of what has been achieved and excited about sharing the outcomes with delegates at Futurebuild.”

Futurebuild (previously named Ecobuild), one of the construction industry’s longest established events is centred around sustainability. The conference and exhibition, which attracts over 20,000 delegates, aims to cultivate cross sector collaboration to inspire the transformational change needed to propel the construction industry towards achieving net-zero.
