Stratera Energy projects selected in Ofgem’s cap and floor scheme

Statera Energy has welcomed Ofgem’s move to add three of its projects in the Long Duration Electricity Storage (LDES) cap and floor scheme.

As part of a portfolio of 16 projects that Ofgem is proposing to support, Loch Kemp Storage, Sundon Storage and East Claydon Storage have been selected. They collectively represent approximately 1.6 gigawatts (GW) of flexible capacity, accounting for more than 20% of the total identified in the scheme.

Statera’s battery projects at Sundon and East Claydon will provide 1GW of capacity. Together the two sites will deliver power for approximately 3.2 million homes, with Sundon delivering eight hours of storage and East Claydon providing up to 12 hours.

Tom Vernon, chief executive officer of Statera Energy, said: “As more renewable generation connects to the grid, long-duration energy storage will be essential for storing surplus electricity and delivering it when it is needed most.

“Together, these projects would add 1.6GW of flexible capacity, marking a major step forward in Statera’s role in delivering the storage infrastructure the UK will need in the years ahead.”

Vernon added: “The LDES scheme represents a significant opportunity to help build a more flexible and resilient energy system, while creating jobs, strengthening UK supply chains and supporting local communities.”
